I just posted this in another friend's DW a few days ago, when she railed against the bullshit beauty standards our society uses for the status quo. ====== As I head towards forty, I'm finding the entire situation fucking ridiculous.
I do work out. I do groom myself. But I labor under no fantasy that I'm ever again going to look like I did at 25.
And lord, I have known several lovers for many years now, and they are still beautiful to me.
We all have scars that weren't there before. We have wrinkles that weren't there. There's extra weight that comes and goes, stretch marks, hair changing color. We can no longer drunkenly fuck like rabbits until dawn without paying for it with aches and pains the next day.
But we do still party, we do still carouse, and I still find these women absolutely gorgeous. They seem to find me not half shabby as well.
Fuck society and fuck the lies. Everyone is supposed to love shitty beer and large expensive cars, never age, never have scars, wear diamonds, pay exorbitant amounts for shampoo and haircuts. I ducked out of all of that around my 30th birthday, and I'm taking all the older women with me.
